Cave Tours at Wonder Cave. The Wonder Cave is an enormous single limestone cavern situated in the Kromdraai Valley. It has ancient dripstone formations that are largely intact. Formations include stalactites, stalagmites, a rimstone pool, cave pearls, and more. The Cave is located within the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. It is close to the Sterkfontein Caves and the Maropeng Visitor Centre in the Kromdraai Valley, northwest of Johannesburg. The cave is surrounded by game farms and the area offers family friendly activities for weekend getaways. The Wondercave features its own fully-functional restaurant. It serves hungry and thirsty travelers before or after their adventures in the cave.
Cave Tours at Wonder Cave. Hourly Tours are conducted by guides along well-lit pathways. Reasonable fitness is required to tour the Wonder Cave. There are 88 steps that lead you into, and out of the cave, and these tend to leave most visitors a little breathless! The Wonder Cave is a natural limestone cavern, measuring 125m long, 54m wide and 60m deep. It was formed between 5 and 10 million years ago, and its ancient dripstone formations are still growing. Some stalagmites resemble weird mushrooms, jellyfish and fingers. The variety of stalactites are also impressive. There are clusters that resemble crystal chandeliers, as well as slender and delicate flowstone.
