The Fossil Hills Wine Walk includes a 3-day guided walking experience with daily distances of between 10 and 15 kilometers. The trail will guide you through the beautiful McGregor valley and lead you to several Wine Farms in the area. As you meander through the idyllic McGregor valley, you’ll get to see breathtaking natural beauty, vineyards, and the rich history of the region. Our experienced guides will accompany you every step of the way, ensuring your safety and providing valuable insights into the region’s flora, fauna, and history. Engage with the local culture as you visit the McGregor valley and its Wine Farms while you sample wines and savor dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients.

The Fossil Hills Wine Walk, also known as a wine trek or wine hiking tour, is a unique and enjoyable way to explore the wine-producing regions of the McGregor valley while combining elements of walking or hiking with wine tasting experiences. During the walk, you will have the opportunity to stroll through vineyards, witnessing the grapevines up close and learning about the grape-growing process. Our guides will provide insights into the viticulture practices specific to the region.

Wine walks are an excellent way for wine enthusiasts and nature lovers to combine their interests, providing a holistic experience that includes physical activity, wine appreciation, and an immersive connection with the wine-producing region.

  • Accommodation x 3 nights at Fossil Hills

  • Transport to dinner in McGregor and back

  • Leisure time on Fossil Hills Farm (hot tubs, mountain bikes, kayaks and kanoes, picnic spots, hiking
    routes, fishing rods, chill with a glass of wine and enjoy the beautiful scenery)

What To Bring to Your Wine Walk

  • Long/3quarter tights for single track trails, or long socks
  • Snacks and drinks for energy along the way
  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable walking trail shoes
  • Rain jacket (always prepare for bad weather)
  • Small backpack for snacks and drinks and long sleeve clothing
  • Sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
  • Optional: aqua/water shoes/crocs (for day 1)
  • Optional: walking stick and small binoculars (bird watching)
  • Less is more …travel light, live light, be the light, spread the light
  • REMEMBER: there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing

Bookings for 2023/2024

Minimum of 6 guests per walk to start a tour date (maximum 20); less than 6 guests will be put on a waiting list until we reach our minimum. The scheduled trail program may differ due to weather conditions or availability. All extra drinks other than what is provided with your meal will be an optional extra. 30% balance payable upfront to secure the booking and balance payable one month before. Cancellations within 90 days of the booking will forfeit their deposit.
