Meander through the Durbanville Vineyards

The Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville is a fantastic destination for a day out in nature. Whether you are a young family with kids or an older group of friends, this estate offers something for everyone. We spent our day walking along the 5km trail that meandered through the stunning vineyards. The scenery was breathtaking and we took plenty of opportunities to snap some photos along the way. However, if you’re feeling more adventurous, you can also opt for the 7km or 9km trail which are suitable for both walking and mountain biking. These trails provide a more challenging experience and offer some spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and vineyards.

Meerendal Wine Estate

The estate has a long history of winemaking, dating back to the 1700s, and today it continues to produce a range of award-winning wines. They specialize in the production of premium wines, particularly those made from grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz. The vines are grown on carefully selected slopes and the grapes are handpicked at the optimal time to ensure the best possible quality. One of the unique features of Meerendal Wine Estate is their use of a gravity-fed winery. This means that the grapes are gently crushed and pressed using the natural force of gravity, which results in a more delicate and nuanced wine.

If you’re interested in learning more about the winemaking process, you can take a guided cellar tour where you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how the wine is made. And of course, no visit to Meerendal Wine Estate would be complete without a wine tasting. The estate offers a variety of tasting options, ranging from the classic tasting of their signature wines to more specialized tastings where you can sample specific varietals.
